Hello, blog readers! Join us for this installment through movie nights, birthday reflections, and artistic endeavors.

The week started with Samantha soaking in the patio views while I, ever the diligent worker bee, was glued to my laptop. Dave played tour guide, whisking her away to the market and the tourist center. In the evening, we hit up Tropics Cafe for their weekly Saba documentary showing. Turns out, Dave had already seen it but kept it a secret! Sneaky, sneaky. Samantha and I, however, were captivated by the film.

Thursday took an unexpected turn into cinematic gold. Samantha and I discovered our shared love for campy B-movies! When I suggested a movie, she was game for anything. Little did she know, I was about to unleash “Flash Gordon” upon her. Her excited “I LOVE Flash Gordon!” response was priceless. We spent the evening gleefully dissecting plot holes and laughing at the sheer absurdity of it all.

As my 51st year drew to a close, sleep evaded me. So, naturally, I got up, Albus in tow, and joined Samantha for a late-night chat about life, the universe, and everything. Turning 52 felt surreal. The first half of 51 was dedicated to planning Dave’s belated 55th birthday bash (thanks, COVID, for ruining the big 5-0). I also spent time nursing a shoulder injury from a stair-related incident in 2024. Stairs, I tell you!

But the real kicker? Those two broken ankles from the summer. Talk about a forced sabbatical! It became a watershed moment, a time for introspection and learning to ask for help. It reinforced my belief in the power of kindness and finding joy in the simple things. Plus, if I hadn’t been hobbling around, I wouldn’t have seen the Saba job posting that brought us here! Silver linings, people, silver linings. And working remotely during my recovery made the transition to Saba a breeze.

Friday was all about unleashing our inner artists at Jobean Glass Studio. Let me tell you, jewelry making is harder than it looks! But I walked away with two necklaces and a bracelet, crafted with my own two hands. Samantha, after a bit of a rocky start, created some truly unique beads, including a heart and a flower! We topped off the day with a visit to Colibri and dinner at The Hideaway with island friends. Rain forced us under the canopy, but the laughter and good times flowed freely.

Once home, we enjoyed some of the authentic Saban cake that Dave had ordered for me. It involved something called boiled frosting, and was quite delicious!

Saturday started with a beautiful moonstone bracelet from Samantha. Then, it was time for an island tour! We grabbed cappuccinos at Saba Snack and headed to Diamond Rock, wrapping up with lunch at Island Flavor in The Bottom. And then, the pièce de résistance: a bird swooping in to devour Samantha’s leftover whipped cream! It was a magical Saba moment that sealed the deal – Samantha is officially in love with this island.

The rest of the day was spent in blissful relaxation, soaking up the Caribbean views. Samantha browsed real estate, I tinkered with the blog, and we watched movies (Idiocracy and Clash of the Titans, for the record). A perfect end to a perfect start to my 52nd year.

Until next time, keep those ankles intact, embrace the B-movies, and never underestimate the power of a well-placed bird and some whipped cream!
