Hey everyone! This week has been an exciting adventure in Saba-style fun, complete with visitors, blackouts, and the occasional marital spat. So grab a tasty beverage and let’s get started!

Sunday started with a scenic trip to the port with Samantha, continuing our epic tour of this tiny paradise. We fueled up on food and beverages at Tank’d, a place with seriously awesome vibes and a spectacular Caribbean view. They even have a scuba-diving skeleton that grooves back and forth. What’s not to love?

We spent the rest of Sunday being gloriously lazy, watching “Mars Attacks” (a classic!) and “Casino.” After all the recent adventures, a recharge was definitely in order. Monday, however, was the polar opposite. My inbox was a monster, and I spent the entire day playing triage. Ugh.

But, Monday night was Samantha’s last hurrah! We had a fantastic dinner at Brigadoon, where I discovered the *holy grail* of Saba Spice. This local liquor is made by different folks, each with their own twist. Brigadoon’s version? Made by the sister of the Swinging Doors’ owner! We also made a few stops for Samantha to bid farewell to her new Saba friends.

Tuesday was touch-and-go with the wind, but in the end Samantha’s flight made it to Sint Maarten, and then back to Connecticut. Meanwhile, Dave and I geared up for St. Patrick’s Day! I usually go all-out with the green bling, but alas, it’s all trapped in our POD. I did, however, manage to wrangle a group into a toast to my late Uncle Gary, whose birthday was on St. Patrick’s Day. Sending the video to his kids was a heartwarming moment.

Wednesday was a comedy of errors. Technical issues at work were completely out of my control, and I was starving. Dave, at my request, ordered a pizza from Amonhana for me. But when we went to pick it up? BAM! Power outage. I’m pretty sure our pizza was mid-bake when the lights went out, because it was a tad doughy. And to add insult to injury, cash only! I had enough for the pizza, but I had to leave a tab open at Colibri due to lack of ability to pay via credit card.

We pivoted our plans and headed to Swinging Doors, where I met some tourists who had just arrived from Sint Maarten to a powerless island! We assured them this wasn’t the norm. As darkness descended, we ventured to The Hideaway, which was hosting a blackout/Norbert’s birthday bash. It was a night of laughter and good times. Dave, however, got worried about Albus being home alone in the dark, so we cut the night short. This led to me being annoyed, and us driving home in total silence. Even the best couples have their moments!

Thursday, I nudged Dave to check on his hotel for his upcoming trip to St. Eustatius, suggesting that I could join him. I even made arrangements for Albus! Sadly, the flights were outrageously expensive. Two houses are expensive enough!

Later that day, Dave called me out on my “snippiness,” leading to a *slightly* heated discussion. But hey, communication is key! We aired our grievances and found common ground. That night, we stayed in and enjoyed a quiet evening at home.

Finally, Friday arrived! I conquered the tech issues at work and was mostly caught up. Woot! Dave insisted on going out, so we headed to Windwardside for drinks and dinner. We ran into the tourists from the blackout, and they were having a blast exploring Saba.

So, that’s the saga of my week! Saba continues to surprise and delight, even when the power goes out and the pizza is a little doughy. Until next time!
