Hey everyone! Life in paradise continues to be, well, interesting! This week brought a mix of delicious treats, neighborhood adventures, and a healthy dose of island-style chaos. Let’s dive in, shall we?

Saturday started off strong with a Facebook-inspired trip into town for Bizzy B’s legendary cinnamon rolls and a cold cappuccino from Saba Snack. Seriously, is there a better breakfast combo? I think not. We spent the rest of the day lounging before heading over to our neighbor Anne’s for a delightful wine and cheese evening. Good company and good conversation – the perfect way to wind down.

Sunday was supposed to be my big day – shadowing Hermes at Tropics Cafe! I arrived bright and early, laptop in hand, ready to absorb all of Hermes’ interactions for the day. Things were going great until I took a quick restroom break. When I returned, Hermes had vanished! Apparently, midday snoozes are a crucial part of his routine. After waiting through most of the lunch rush, I threw in the towel and called Dave for a ride home. Round two will have to wait!

Monday was Martin Luther King Day, which meant a glorious day off! I caught up with friends, relaxed at home, and later ventured into town with Dave. A quick hello to Anise at the Hideaway turned into an impromptu ATM-fixing mission. Apparently, the new ATMs were giving the installers a headache, so I dragged one of them over to the Swinging Doors to enlist Dave’s help. Because nothing says “island life” like troubleshooting ATMs in a bar. We ended up chatting with Dave’s colleagues for a while, proving that even holidays can lead to unexpected social gatherings.

Tuesday brought me back to work, but the day flew by after I tackled my inbox. After work, my neighbor Anne and I hit up Colibri for cocktails. Dave, ever my chauffer, came too. And guess what? I discovered that if you’re lucky, Colibri sometimes has homemade empanadas! Jackpot! Our evening was going swimmingly until the heavens opened up. We retreated to our house, where Anne later encountered a hermit crab on her way home. Dave then took Albus out, only to be stalked by our neighborhood land crab. This thing is HUGE and announces its presence with a terrifying “click, click, click.” It’s basically the island’s version of a jump scare.

Wednesday started with Albus waking Dave up at 4 AM for a potty break (poor Dave!). Albus seemed to have a slightly upset stomach, probably due to a recent food change. Poor little guy! Then, the real drama began: a torrential downpour of biblical proportions. Normally, the rain isn’t a problem because my workstation is far enough from the door. But this was no normal rain. My computer was getting soaked! Closing the door required a daring mission involving hopping over dog gates and braving the downpour to move the scuba tank propping it open (don’t ask). By the time I got the door closed, I was drenched. So much for staying dry indoors!

After a week of running around, we decided to spend Wednesday night relaxing at home. Sometimes, the best adventures are the ones that happen on your own couch.

That’s all for today, folks! Stay tuned for more tales from island life, where the unexpected is always just around the corner (or lurking in the bushes, clicking its claws).
