Ready to read about a whirlwind of near-misses, mental health days, and logistical acrobatics worthy of Cirque du Soleil?
It all started bright and early (thanks, Albus!) on Monday. The good news? I was finally sleeping like a normal human again. The even better news? Samantha, bless her soul, provided coffee mugs! Death Wish to the rescue! Work beckoned, so I looped Jamie into the Albus development and, with a heavy heart, cancelled my PTO. Without the right pet carrier, a quick trip to Saba to get him there before Thanksgiving was a no-go.
Monday evening was my last Ladies Night for a while. It was bittersweet saying goodbye, but I’m already plotting a similar club on Saba. Picture it: cocktails, ocean views, and maybe a few friendly iguanas joining the conversation.

Tuesday was Veterans Day, and I declared it a “Do Absolutely Nothing” day. Seriously, folks, sometimes you just need to unplug and recharge. I took a little road trip to MGM Springfield, hoping it had improved since its underwhelming opening. I even considered a pilgrimage to the original Yankee Candle, but snow flurries convinced me to stick to the slots. It was a surprisingly effective form of self-care, followed by a much-needed chat with friends.
Wednesday saw me feeling (slightly) less like a walking anxiety attack. Work was a beast, but I managed to slay it and order some dinner (and tomorrow’s lunch!). My appetite, however, remains MIA. I’m eating like a sparrow these days, which is great for fitting into my swimsuit, but not so great for, you know, energy.
Thursday brought good news! The office Christmas party was scheduled for a date I could actually attend. Huzzah! I also had a brilliant (if I do say so myself) idea about how to make it to Saba before Christmas. It involved some serious logistical maneuvering and hinged on Kim’s availability. If it didn’t work, January was the answer, but I was determined to escape the clutches of winter before the year was out.

Friday was D-Day. I reached out to Kim and Dori, the key players in Operation Saba By Christmas, and they were both on board! Dori would come up as planned, but she’d bring Kim along for the ride. Kim would then accompany me and Albus to Saba, making the whole process smoother than a freshly Zamboni’d ice rink. I’d have Kim back before Christmas, leaving her plenty of time for festive fun.
The relief was immense. Operation Saba By Christmas was a GO! Stay tuned for the next chapter, where I’m sure the planning will involve even more caffeine, spreadsheets, and maybe a little bit of holiday magic.
