Hey everyone, welcome back to my little corner of the internet! Life on Saba continues to be a delightful mix of the mundane and the marvelous. Let’s dive into the latest happenings, shall we?

Last Saturday, Dave and I braved the bustling market in search of culinary treasures. My mission? To upgrade my snack game and find some decent lunch options for the work week. And guess what? I struck GOLD. Individual coffee creamers! You wouldn’t think it would be such a big deal, but my coffee situation has been dire, so I snatched those babies up faster than you can say “caffeine fix.” I also swung by Bizzy B for some fresh bread. All in all, a successful market run!

It was time for a logo refresh! The old wheelchair logo had to go. I’ve been rocking my walking stick like a pro here on the island, so it was time my online presence reflected that I’m on two feet again. I dragged Dave out for a mini-photoshoot with my trusty sunflower umbrella. While I was already up the hill, I popped into the glass studio. They offer glass-making classes during the week, and I’m already planning to sign up with whoever comes to visit. Think of the possibilities!

Later that afternoon, we hit up the opening of an art installation at The Dive Bar. It was a social whirlwind! We met tons of new people (and even more dogs!). Albus, of course, was in his element, making friends left and right. Unfortunately, the evening took a turn when my sinuses decided to stage a rebellion. We headed home, and I spent the rest of the night battling congestion.

I woke up in the middle of the night, unable to breathe through my nose. I exiled myself to the living room to spare Dave from my nocturnal sniffling symphony. Sadly, the love seat offered about as much comfort as a park bench. The next day was a blur of writing, nose-blowing (seriously, I think I went through an entire forest of Kleenex), and desperate attempts to rest. I was hoping I’d dodged Dave’s cold, but alas, it found me anyway. On the bright side, 2025 is almost over! While Saba has been amazing, the journey here and my lingering injuries made this year a bit of a mixed bag, and I’m ready to kick it to the curb.

Desperate times called for desperate measures, so I took a half dose of Nyquil around 4:30 PM. It was the only cold remedy in the house, so I risked an early bedtime. Surprisingly, I managed to stay awake until 9ish before succumbing to the sweet embrace of sleep. The night wasn’t exactly peaceful, but I eventually dragged myself out of bed around 6 AM, ready (or not) to face the day.

Work was a challenge, to say the least. My nose was running like a faucet, and I lost count of the number of tissues I used. Dave thoughtfully surprised me with a chicken alfredo pizza from Amonhana for dinner. I’d been craving it the day before. He also brought me some daytime cold meds, which were, without a doubt, the most disgusting thing I have ever tasted. I’m not even kidding, it tasted like smelly feet, and I gagged trying to swallow it. I managed a slice of pizza while finishing up work, then crashed for the night.

Tuesday was one of *those* days. Nothing came easy. My computer decided to stage a technical revolt, lagging for 60 seconds at a time whenever I tried to save something. With the short week and my recent PTO, I was already struggling to catch up, and my computer’s shenanigans were NOT helping. My cough came back with a vengeance, so I braved another dose of the horrendous cold medicine. It was even worse the second time around, because I knew what was coming.

After work, we ventured into Windwardside for dinner and a delightful chat with friends. The weather was perfect – cool enough for long sleeves (a surprising adjustment for me, as I thought my long sleeves would be relegated to the back of my closet until my annual Thanksgiving trip to New Jersey).

While at The Hideaway, I sampled an adult beverage I’ll refer to as BBD rum. The name is definitely a head-turner, and to keep things PG-rated here, I won’t repeat the full name. But a quick Google search will satisfy your curiosity. I opted for the dark chocolate flavor, and it was surprisingly delicious. It makes me wish I’d discovered it back when I was searching for a replacement for the old Godiva liqueur. I used to make the world’s best chocolate martinis, until two of the three ingredients were discontinued. And yes, Godiva still makes a chocolate liqueur, but none of the variations have that same tootsie roll taste of the original recipe.

So, that’s the latest from my little island paradise. Stay tuned for more adventures, mishaps, and maybe even a successful glass-blowing attempt!
