Hey everyone, get ready for another riveting installment in my Saban life!

Sunday was chill, mostly spent at home. But, we did venture out for a mocktail workshop! Sponsored by the Saba government for Dry January (who knew that was a thing?), it was only $15 a head. We learned to make syrups and four different mocktails. Plus, there was a spread of food at the end. The instructor, Ludo from Sint Maarten, was a bartending whiz. We even got certificates! Totally worth it. I’m practically a mixologist now.

Monday started with a 40-minute tech support call at work. Ugh. But smooth sailing after that! My colleagues were all working remotely because of a foot of snow in Connecticut. I can’t say I missed that one bit. After work, we hit up The Hideaway for dinner. It was packed for a Monday, so we sat at the bar. Still a nice outing!

Tuesday was…challenging. I dealt with customers who seemed determined to be difficult, despite it being in their best interest to cooperate. I’m usually super nice on the phone (it throws people off when you’re relentlessly pleasant), but even that didn’t work. Sigh. At least it was a stay-at-home evening.

It’s hard talking to my friends up north who are dealing with a truly terrible winter. I try to avoid weather conversations, because Saba’s weather is 90% perfect. The rain we do get is essential because we collect it in a cistern for household use. Yes, I wash my hair in rainwater. Sounds poetic, right? My hair and skin aren’t fans, though. I know, poor little me…lol

Around 2 am Wednesday, Albus alerted us to the recycle truck. Thanks, buddy. Sleep was already problematic, so I just laid there staring at the ceiling once the recycle truck finally moved on and Albus stopped alerting us to its continued presence.

Then, Dave couldn’t find his car keys in the morning. Turns out, he left them in the car! Risky in the USA, but on Saba, where would you even hide a stolen car? My workday started with three attempts to boot up my laptop. The day continued in that vein – issues and spinning wheels galore.

After work, I headed to Windwardside to meet Anise & Jennifer at the Swinging Doors. I stopped by The Hideaway to see Darren, who was trying to quit smoking. He was struggling, but making progress! I offered what support I could and then met the ladies. Swinging Doors only has food on Fridays (barbecue!), so we ordered a to-go pizza from Amonhana. It was exactly what I needed after a rocky day.

Until next time!
