Hello, fellow adventurers! It all started with a glorious decision: a lazy day! I mean, who am I to argue with the siren song of relaxation? Dave, apparently. He woke me up just to point out my sloth-like behavior. Rude! But I quickly remedied that by diving back into the land of nod. Priorities, people!

Once I finally dragged myself out of bed, I did some serious sleuthing to identify the local hummingbird population. Turns out, we’re graced by the presence of the Antillean-Crested Hummingbird. Fancy, right? They’re quite the lookers and seem particularly fond of our “prickly pear cactus” tree. I put that in quotes because it doesn’t seem to actually be a prickly pear cactus, but hey, who am I to judge a tree’s identity crisis?

Switching gears, I had a chat with my blogging buddy, Jason, who was tackling the heavy topic of pet euthanasia. Finnegan, my beloved pup, was heavy on my mind, so I offered up my post about his passing to help Jason out. It’s a tough subject, but important to discuss.

The next day, Dave was on airport duty, picking up his new colleague. We all grabbed lunch at Tropics Cafe, which was lovely, even though the Christmas decorations had already been taken down. I know, I know, the holidays were over. Still, a girl can dream of year-round tinsel, right?

Monday marked my triumphant return to the grind. Laundry day also arrived, with our trusty guy, Luis, whisking away our dirty duds. Post-work, we hit up The Hideaway for dinner and drinks and bumped into some tourists temporarily stranded due to flight cancellations. Luckily, they found accommodations. And let’s be real, there are worse places to be stuck than Saba!

Then came the email that made my heart sing: my Dad wants to visit in April 2026! I immediately started brainstorming logistics, including the potential sale (or lack thereof) of our Connecticut house. Fingers crossed someone snaps it up soon!

Speaking of 2026, I tried to nail down the event calendar for Saba to plan my Dad’s visit, but the government website and tourist bureau were strangely silent. The only confirmed events were Saba Day and Carnival, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary! I expect it to be amazing.

Back at work, it was accounts receivable catch-up day. Let’s just say my A/R processing had taken a “big hit” during my abbreviated work weeks over the holidays. But, I almost conquered it all! Tomorrow is another day, right?

The calendar research led to the burning question: Who to invite for Carnival? We started with Chuck, but had to resort to a text when he didn’t answer. Hotels are already filling up, so anyone interested needs to book ASAP! Next up were Dee & Kip, veteran adventure buddies. They were excited, but needed to sort out the logistics. Progress!

Finally, the grand finale: 2 AM trash trucks! Yes, you read that right. Albus, our furry alarm clock, was NOT amused by the nocturnal garbage collection. Apparently, with only one main road, the trash trucks block everything for an extended period. Albus was “REALLY ticked off” and wouldn’t stop complaining. Eventually, they moved on, and we managed to drift back to sleep. Island life, folks!

So there you have it: a whirlwind of lazy mornings, hummingbird identification, potential house sales, and late-night garbage truck grievances. Stay tuned for more Saba shenanigans!
