Welp, folks, today was the day. The day I finally spilled the beans about our big, crazy, Caribbean-bound adventure. First up: my boss, Jamie. I texted her, requesting a virtual face-to-face ASAP. To my surprise (and relief), she responded almost immediately, offering me a slot in *fifteen minutes*. Talk about pressure! It was a good thing, though, because it didn’t give me time to overthink it and spiral into a pit of “what ifs.”

I explained Dave’s incredible opportunity and our impending move to Saba. Then came the big ask: could I stay on with the company remotely? Jamie was super supportive, promising to discuss it with our CEO and assuring me they were happy to try and make it work. Huge sigh of relief! One hurdle down.

With the work bomb dropped (in a good way!), it was time to start telling the rest of our inner circle. Dave got home a little early, and we spent a lovely afternoon sharing the news and basking in the excitement. It felt so good to finally let everyone in on our secret!

Then, the house hunt began…sort of. Dave reached out to the realtor regarding the house I’ve been obsessing over. Apparently, Saba has only two real estate offices, and you’re stuck with whoever lists the property. Dave had already connected with one realtor, but alas, they weren’t *the one* for my dream house. So, we’re in a holding pattern, waiting to hear back from the other realtor. The first one did offer us an alternative, a slightly more extravagant option that costs about $100K more. I had previously vetoed it, but who knows, maybe it’ll still be on the market when we’re ready to buy. Time will tell!

After dinner, I *finally* convinced Dave to watch the Shark Week episode featuring Saba, called “Attack of the Devil Shark.” Now, I initially watched it for the stunning views of the island (obviously!), but what really piqued my interest was the science behind it. Saba is a dormant volcano, and there are active underwater fissures that seem to be linked to increased aggression in tiger sharks. Apparently, the volcanic activity somehow triggers this behavior, and while tiger sharks aren’t usually prone to attacking humans, there were two recent attacks on neighboring islands, both attributed to the same rogue tiger shark. Crazy, right? Anyway, Dave, Jared, and I watched it, and Dave is now reconsidering his scuba diving aspirations. Maybe we’ll stick to snorkeling for a while!

Now, for the less glamorous part of the day: my acid reflux decided to throw a party in my esophagus that night. I was up, down, and up again at least four times trying to tame the burn. And, of course, let’s not forget Albus, our adorable but mischievous puppy. Remember how I asked Dave to keep him off the bed until he got bigger? Yeah, well, my husband succumbed to Albus’s undeniable charm and let him sleep with us. So, on my third return to bed, I unexpectedly encountered an Albus-shaped obstacle mid-hop, forcing me to make an awkward mid-air adjustment. Let’s just say I was less than thrilled. But, since Dave was deep in REM sleep, I decided to save my complaints for the morning.

Morning arrived, and I had *another* discussion with Dave about the Albus-on-the-bed situation. Then, I luxuriated in a shower that didn’t require a two-hour time slot, now that my incision is healed – hallelujah! I put in my four hours at work, polishing off a finished version of my AI project, and everyone was thrilled with the results. Go me!

Dinner was ordered from DoorDash, but in a classic Dave moment, he accidentally sent it to his work instead of home. So, he had to make a quick trip to the office to retrieve our slightly-cold-but-still-delicious meal. After dinner, Dave sent me a fascinating video about sunflowers under a microscope, hoping to spark my creative juices. Not that I needed it, because lately I’ve been on a writing frenzy…lol.

So, that was our day. A mix of exciting news, logistical hurdles, shark-related anxieties, and acid reflux-induced sleep deprivation. Just another day in the life of two people about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime! Stay tuned for more updates as we navigate the wild world of moving to Saba!
