Hello, friends! Life has been… eventful, to say the least. Let’s just say my body decided to throw a pre-menopausal party in the middle of the night, complete with sheets damp from sweat, and a surprise visit from the arctic breeze. Thanks, hormones! Luckily, Dave was banished to the living room by an early wake up call from Albus, so I was able to steal his dry spot. Crisis averted!
But enough about my nocturnal adventures (or misadventures, rather). The real excitement started on Friday: my first in-person physical therapy appointment since being discharged from home care. I also managed to wrangle a group of six family members for the Candlelight Processional package at Disney. So, it looks like I’ll have a proper send-off before I head to Saba!
Dave and I headed to physical therapy, and I’m happy to report it went swimmingly! Logan, my PT, gave me the thumbs up on my strength. After acing the assessment and exercises, we tackled the holy grail: the sample staircase! And guess what? I made it four steps up! I felt like I’d conquered Everest. Okay, maybe not Everest, but definitely a very small, carpeted hill.
It’ll be a while before I’m tackling full flights of stairs to the basement (the basement will have to wait!), but I *can* manage the two steps out the front door with my walker. Huzzah! Now we just need to figure out how to remove the ramp. That’s a project for another day, I think.

Post-therapy, Dave dropped me off outside to soak up the sunshine. It was a beautiful day, and I wasn’t about to waste it indoors. To celebrate my newfound stair-climbing prowess, Dave and I enjoyed a delightful dinner on the patio at Mix Prime. And I have to give them props – for a place that claims to be accessible, it actually *was*! There was some fancy maneuvering involved to navigate the patio posts, but hey, I’ll take it.
The evening took an unexpected turn when I received a distress call from Samantha. Her oven decided to stage a walkout mid-cupcake baking session. So, I preheated my trusty (read: ancient) stove, and she came over to finish the job. We chatted while she baked, proving that even oven malfunctions can lead to quality time with friends.
Saturday started with a rare and glorious event: Dave voluntarily venturing out for croissants from Ovens of France. Seriously, those croissants are the stuff of legends. Fueled by flaky, buttery goodness, we headed to the Arts & Eats event in Dave’s town. It was a delightful mix of crafts, food, and people-watching. I even snagged a gorgeous dichroic glass necklace, which Dave sweetly gifted me when I couldn’t make up my mind. Navigating the grassy areas with the wheelchair was a bit of a challenge for Dave, but it was worth it to be out in the sunshine and surrounded by human beings.

Back home, I parked myself outside to soak up the beautiful weather. I chatted with friends, listened to music, and even had a pleasant conversation with a wrong number text. Of course, Dave later informed me that it was probably a scammer. Sigh. It’s a shame that even accidental encounters are viewed with such suspicion these days.
I try to approach everyone with kindness and respect until they give me a reason not to. And you know what? More often than not, people reciprocate. Sometimes they’re even surprised by it, like kindness is a rare commodity. That’s why I make a point to compliment someone’s hairstyle, or their outfit, or something they said or did. Kindness is free to give, and I believe it always matters.

Later, Aunt Margaret called with some, shall we say, *concerns* about our Saba plan. I spent some time explaining the island, the infrastructure, and our plans. Once she heard me out, she was much more enthusiastic and wished us the best. Uncle Jim seemed a little less convinced, but I invited them to visit and see for themselves. I feel like I’m inviting everyone I know! But what are the odds of everyone actually showing up? Saba isn’t the easiest island to get to, and most people aren’t exactly thrill-seekers when it comes to travel. Still, time will tell.
So, that’s the latest from my corner of the world. Physical therapy is progressing, friendships are being cherished, and the move to Saba is looming ever closer. Stay tuned for more updates! And remember, spread a little kindness today – the world needs it.
