Hey everyone! Your friendly neighborhood Sunflower Umbrella Lady here, popping in with a little life update and a confession that might surprise some of you.

First things first, Tuesday was a win! Productive work day? Check. Meaningful conversations? Check. Quality time with Samantha? Check. Romantic evening with Dave? Check. And… *drumroll please*… I caught up on General Hospital!

Yes, you read that right. I’m officially coming out as a General Hospital fan. It’s a guilty pleasure, I know, but hear me out. My mom watched it religiously throughout my childhood, and while I’ve drifted in and out of Port Charles over the years, something always pulls me back. Maybe it’s the soapy drama, the ridiculously over-the-top storylines, or the comfort of seeing familiar faces that have been gracing my screen since I was a kid. Or maybe it’s the fresh blood, the new characters trying to find their place in the Port Charles universe. Whatever it is, there’s something both comforting and wildly entertaining about it all. Don’t judge!

Now, let’s move on to Wednesday, which started with a bit of a medical emergency. Remember that yard cleanup Dave did a while back? Turns out he had a close encounter with a particularly nasty poisonous plant. And, in a move that can only be described as a masterclass in spreading misery, he immediately hopped in the shower, unknowingly distributing the irritant all over his body. For ten days, he’s been a walking, talking, scratching machine. Finally, Wednesday morning, he declared himself officially “sick” and headed to the walk-in clinic – something I’d been suggesting for days, mind you. The doctor took one look and diagnosed him with poison sumac, administered a shot, and sent him packing with a prescription for prednisone. Poor guy!

But wait, there’s more! Later that day, Dave received an email about the Saba position he interviewed for. Apparently, he can expect to hear back by the end of next week. Yowza!! Talk about a nail-biter! I’m practically vibrating with anticipation. I’ve been daydreaming of a tropical relocation plan for weeks now, and this waiting game is about to drive me bonkers. Imagine me, sipping cocktails in the Caribbean, umbrella in hand (of course!), blogging about island life. A girl can dream, right?

Wednesday night, insomnia decided to pay me a visit. I tossed and turned for hours, eventually giving up and relocating to the living room. It was the first time I’d had insomnia since Finnegan passed, and I really missed the way he’d follow me within fifteen minutes or so when I left the bedroom.

Albus, our new furry family member, has pretty much been captive in the same room with me since his arrival at our home, except at bedtime when he’s crated on Dave’s side of the bed, so he was not available for company. Although when I finally went back to bed, Albus had been freed from his crate and was happily snuggled up on my pillow. Dave retrieved him so I could maneuver my way into bed in the dark room. Albus is still only ten pounds, so I’m afraid to roll over on him during the night, but since I wasn’t really sleeping anyway I decided to just let it be, and I got about four hours of actual sleep, so it sort of worked out.

Thursday was all about the blog! I spent the day cherry-picking some lucky individuals to preview my little corner of the internet and sending them links to check it out. I’m hoping for some positive feedback, and maybe even some constructive criticism to help me refine my storytelling. I’m especially eager to get the website fully functional, especially that pesky subscribe button!

Regardless of the reception, I’m genuinely excited about launching this blog, throwing some positivity into the world, and seeing where my upcoming adventures take me. Will I be sharing tales as an expat living on the island of Saba? Will I end up somewhere else entirely? Or will I be doing an extensive tour of Connecticut’s points of interest for years to come? Only time will tell!

And finally, for dinner, Dave wanted to order something called shawarma, which I’d never heard of. Since he couldn’t adequately explain what it was to me the first time he wanted to order it, I was uninterested, and this was his second attempt. He’s been having a rough go of it lately with all the itching from the poison sumac, so I reluctantly agreed to give it a try. And I’m delighted to report that it was quite tasty! A bit zesty, but still something I would enjoy ordering again.

Allie would be coming in the morning to assess me for discharge from home care, so keep your fingers crossed for me!

So, that’s the scoop from my little corner of the world. Soap operas, itchy husbands, tropical daydreams, and culinary adventures – just another week in the life of The Sunflower Umbrella Lady! Stay tuned for more!
