Hello, lovely readers! It’s been a weekend of endings and beginnings, of sunshine and… well, dead mice. Buckle up, because it’s been a ride!
Friday was D-Day – Discharge Day! My favorite visiting nurse, Allie, was scheduled to arrive and give my ankle the final once-over. Honestly, I was a little nervous. What if it wasn’t quite ready? What if I was doomed to more couch-bound days? Luckily, all my worrying was for naught! Allie declared my incision officially healed. Hallelujah!
That’s right, folks, no more home care for yours truly! It’s off to in-person physical therapy as soon as I can wrangle an appointment. I’m practically buzzing with excitement. There’s just something so satisfying about feeling like you’re making progress, you know?

After celebrating my newfound freedom with a few hours of work, Dave wheeled me outside for some much-needed fresh air. I caught up with friends on the phone, basking in the sunshine. But then, as I succumbed to the siren song of doom scrolling, I stumbled upon the news of Tristan Rogers’ passing.
For those of you who don’t know, Tristan was a legend in the soap opera world, and I’d been watching him play Robert Scorpio since I was a little kid. My beloved Aunt Sue was also a huge General Hospital fan, and we used to dissect every episode together. So, the news hit me hard, followed by the even harder realization that the person I most wanted to call about it was no longer here.
It was a moment, to say the least.

Then, to add a cherry on top of the emotional sundae, our DoorDash order went missing, only to arrive later, predictably cold. Sigh. We salvaged the evening with the latest episode of “Wednesday” (highly recommend!) and then I dove headfirst into the wonderful world of AI image generation. Let me tell you, it’s addictively fun, and I can’t wait to share the results with you all soon!
Saturday was dedicated to putting the finishing touches on my brand-spanking-new website! But, as Murphy’s Law would have it, I was immediately stonewalled by the setup of my new email domain: @sunflowerumbrellalady.com. Technology, why must you taunt me so?
After wrestling with the internet demons for a while, I decided to surrender and head outside for some sunshine and a chat with my friend Jason. He’s an iPhone user, and I wanted to make sure the website looked good from that perspective. (Gotta cover all the bases!) We were having a lovely conversation when Dave emerged from the house with a face that could curdle milk.

Remember how Dave’s been battling a persistent cough, likely from farmer’s lung? Well, he decided to clean the filter of our bedroom air conditioning unit in a desperate attempt to find some relief. And what did he find?
A dead mouse. A VERY dead mouse.
Now, this isn’t my first rodeo with rodents. I’ve had to remove two separate mice from my truck’s cabin filter in the past three years. Apparently, it’s just part of the charm of country living. Oh, joy. The silver lining? A brand-new air conditioner was on its way, courtesy of Amazon Prime. Thank goodness for modern conveniences!
Later that afternoon, my friend Samantha stopped by for a visit. Jared has been available for Albus’ care most of the week and she hasn’t needed to come by. But as soon as Albus heard Samantha’s voice from inside the house he insisted on coming out for a visit. Samantha, always prepared with a homemade dog treat, was delighted to see him as well.

We sat out front chatting, with me strategically positioned under my trusty sunflower umbrella as the sun shifted, and Samantha happily soaking up the rays. Dave then popped out to show me the fixes he’d made to the website. I was thrilled with the progress! After Samantha left, I had Dave wheel me back inside to continue my online adventures.
We had some dinner, and I ate while I worked on updating some posts and creating more images. Dave had done all he could, and was now waiting on the creation of my email domain and the response to a support ticket to finish the setup.
As my eyes started to cross and it became clear I was in need of a break for the evening, I suggested to Dave that we watch a movie. “Bride Hard” was selected, and we watched half of it in the living room before retiring to watch the rest in bed. It was good, but I did fall asleep before the end, which has more to do with me than the movie. I always fall asleep to movies in bed, and really should have known better than to relocate before the end.
So, there you have it! A week of highs and lows, of freedom and frustration, of sunshine and… well, you know. I’m so excited to share my thoughts, experiences, and hopefully a few laughs with you all. Stay tuned for more adventures, more AI-generated images, but hopefully no more dead mouse stories. (Fingers crossed!)
Wish me luck as I continue to navigate the wild and wonderful world of blogging and life in general! And thanks for joining me on this journey!
