Well, folks, another weekend in paradise (and beyond!) is in the books, and this one had a little bit of everything: superstition, sleep deprivation, canine capers, and cocktails. Let’s start, shall we?
First off, Friday the 13th wasn’t so unlucky after all. I even got to catch up with my friend Rick on the phone during lunch. Plus, we got President’s Day off work! Turns out the insurance world grinds to a halt when the carriers take a break. Who knew? To celebrate, we had some killer barbecue ribs from Swinging Doors. The only downside? My brain decided sleep was overrated, and I spent most of the night bonding with the loveseat. We’re talking a solid 90 minutes of shut-eye between 2 and 4 am. Glamorous, I know. After a few nights of causing my insomnia, Albus was resting peacefully when I got up and missed my late night wanderings.

Saturday was all about Albus! Dave, in a burst of Valentine’s Day spirit, took our furry friend on an epic hike to Juliana’s and back. It was quite the trek, complete with steep hills and plenty of opportunities for Albus to charm the locals. He even had a little meet-and-greet with Hermes!
Later, we stocked up on essentials: melatonin for yours truly (sleep, where art thou?), groceries from Big Rock Market, and a loaf of heavenly, preservative-free bread from Bizzy B Bakery. Seriously, this bread is so good, it vanishes faster than free samples at Costco.
I also started planning my May visit with Jason. I’m ditching the rental car on Saturday and hiring a ride to JFK on Sunday morning. The traffic is a nightmare, and my stress levels can’t handle it. Even cutting a day off the car rental, the prices were insane! I signed up for Enterprise emails, hoping for a discount code. Desperate times, people!

Sunday morning started with a mystery. I found the aloe vera gel bottle on the floor, sitting upright & wide open. Not so coincidentally, Albus had an upset tummy overnight. After a bit of detective work, we discovered bite marks on the bottle. Apparently, Albus found it where it had been knocked off the bathroom shelf and decided it was a chew toy. Hence, the tummy troubles. Vet trip on Monday was in order!
Dave took Albus on another walk to Juliana’s, but this time, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. An unleashed dog with a serious Albus-sized appetite came charging at them. Luckily, Dave swooped in like a superhero and saved the day. The owner’s excuse? “He’s just very protective.” Yeah, well, maybe protectiveness should involve a leash!
Lunchtime rolled around, and I had a brilliant idea: let’s hit up Tank’d, a bar/restaurant near the dive shop! Their Facebook page said they were open, but alas, when we arrived, it was closed. Womp womp. Plan B: Island Flavor! We enjoyed a delicious lunch, complete with fancy frozen cappuccinos.

Monday was a glorious, work-free day! I hitched a ride into town with Cyril and indulged in one of Colibiri’s February specialty cocktails, the Sweet Kiss. So good, I had to have two! Then, I popped into Sea & Learn to check out their March schedule, but sadly, no classes were being held. However, April brings paper-making and woodworking, so that’s something to look forward to! I ended up at Hideaway, chatting with some friendly locals while waiting for Dave.
Finally, it was time for Albus’s vet appointment. Turns out, he was mostly fine, just needed an anti-inflammatory injection and some probiotic meds. And the best part? The whole thing cost a whopping $42.50! Talk about a bargain compared to vet care back in the States.

So, there you have it, folks! Another story of island life, filled with its fair share of quirks and adventures. Until next time!
