Hello again, blog readers! This week’s chapter is all about moving, margaritas, and maybe a touch of the paranormal? Let’s hop into the delightful chaos.
Monday was surprisingly chill. The highlight? Anise suggested we host sundowners on my front porch Friday night. I was immediately sold. Dave and I got a little over-enthusiastic and invited eight people, turning it into a mini-party. We stayed in that night, though, because Dave was in full-on packing mode, and you don’t mess with a man on a mission to conquer cardboard boxes.
Tuesday morning, while casually scrolling through my emails (as one does), I got a suggestion to connect with a coworker on LinkedIn. Networking is key, right? So, I sent the invitation, along with a couple to other colleagues. Later, my boss messaged me, all concerned because my profile apparently screamed, “I’M OPEN TO WORK!” Oops. I assured her I wasn’t looking to jump ship, but then wrestled with the LinkedIn settings like I was battling a hydra. It was ridiculously difficult to change! I finally gave up and waited for Dave to come home and work his tech magic.
To add to the day’s drama, we had a power outage for about 30 minutes. Luckily, my laptop was fully charged, so I could still work, but the backup battery’s incessant beeping was driving me absolutely bonkers. Later, I saw a post from Saba Electric saying they had no clue why the power went down, but they were “investigating.” Hmmm. Suspicious, right?

But the day wasn’t all tech woes! After work, Dave had a craving for Tropics’ lamb special. On the way, we bumped into Duco walking his two new dogs, Zuko and Floppy. Super cute names, by the way! We told him where we were headed, and he decided to join us after his walk. We had a great time, filled with laughter and good conversation. Dave declared the lamb delicious, so all in all, a win for the day.
Back home, we caught up with Chuck to hear about his first day at his new job. It went well, which made us all very happy. Good vibes all around!
I woke up around 4 am on Wednesday for no apparent reason, but hey, at least I snagged a pretty sunrise pic. After work, it was ladies’ night with Anise and Jennifer. We chose Colibri because the weather was perfect for outdoor dining. Good food, good friends, good times!

Anise, bless her heart, went shopping for ingredients for my world-famous pineapple margaritas, which were destined for Friday night’s porch party. Her help was a lifesaver because I knew I wouldn’t have time to shop on Friday, what with Dave moving all our stuff and everything being closed for Labor Day (the Dutch one, not the American one).
Moving day! Dave and I were up at the crack of dawn. Dave immediately transformed into a packing machine, loading everything into the car. He spent the day setting things up at the new house, and then picked me up after I logged off at 4 pm.
Stepping into the cottage and knowing it was (hopefully) our permanent home was an amazing feeling. It’s a beautiful house, and the grounds are surprisingly spacious, especially considering how close we are to downtown. Seriously, it’s more property than you’d expect in this location.
First order of business: a video call with my bestie to show off the new digs. But here’s where things got weird. As soon as I crossed the threshold into the cemetery, I lost signal. It came back as soon as I stepped back over the threshold. Is it just a dead zone? Maybe. But still…creepy.

That night, we hosted our porch party to toast the new house. It was a blast! Lots of laughter, free-flowing margaritas, pizza (the traditional moving food, obviously), and great company. We didn’t crash until midnight because everyone was having such a good time.
I woke up early on Saturday, letting Dave sleep in. The bed was way more comfortable than the rental, and actual curtains meant I wasn’t forced awake by the sunrise. I chatted with Jenn and Dori while Dave slept, and even did a video walkthrough of the new house to send to friends and family.
Dave eventually emerged and walked down the hill for eggs from Kate’s and some Bizzy B goodies. Around 10 am, he headed back to the rental for our final walkthrough. I stayed behind to do some writing and maybe start unpacking.
Then came the REALLY weird part.
Jared replied to my video walkthrough with a message saying Daphne Johnson was going to haunt me. I was still laughing when I called him back, and when I mentioned that his dad was looking to restore the graves, he suggested I get right on that. I replied that we’d get to it, but it wasn’t our number one priority, and as soon as the words left my mouth, static came through the phone and the call dropped. Okay, that’s even weirder than losing signal in the cemetery. What is going on here?

In the afternoon, I decided to get a haircut. I’d had to cancel my appointment with Cicily during my upcoming Connecticut trip (due to time constraints and the insane cost of rental cars over Memorial Day weekend), so I was in desperate need of a trim.
I headed down the hill on foot, popped into Ana’s Hair Salon, scored a 2pm appointment, and grabbed some coffee to kill time. I ran into Christine and her dog, Finn, at Island Paradise and enjoyed my coffee and a moscato creme-filled donut while chatting with her. At 1:58 pm, I left and arrived right on time for my haircut. After my haircut I stopped to use the restrooms by The Hideaway and ran into Darren, whom I also chatted with for a bit before popping over to Everytings on my way home. I was gone for about three hours and had a great time with my newfound freedom.
Saturday night was dedicated to getting organized in the new space and putting some stuff away. Productive and relaxing!
Sunday started with a brunch at Island Favorites at 11 am. They were kicking off Wellness Month on Saba with a five-course menu of healthy items and even hired DJ Slim for the occasion. Dave had an errand in The Bottom beforehand, and while he was gone, I spotted Sally heading down the hill. I invited her in for a tour of the house and to say hello to Albus. Albus, ever the charmer, convinced her to play fetch with him while we chatted.
Brunch was filled with items I would never normally order, but surprisingly, everything was delicious. First course was a yogurt and granola parfait, followed by bread with avocado spread, greens, and smoked salmon, then a green smoothie made with spinach, cucumber, apples, and something else I’ve already forgotten. The final savory course was a shrimp ceviche, and then things wrapped up with a piece of Belgian waffle and a blueberry muffin. My only complaint? The whole experience took about two and a half hours, which was about 45 minutes longer than I had hoped.
Around 5ish, Dave decided to head to Swinging Doors for an hour or so. When he got home, he told me Tanner and Wesley were heading to Tropics, and did I want to join them for dinner? Absolutely! We arrived to find Duco already there, and we all enjoyed the beautiful night out.
So, that’s the saga of the new house so far. Between LinkedIn mishaps, power outages, porch parties, and potential ghostly encounters, it’s been quite the week. Will we ever figure out the mystery of the cemetery signal and the static-filled phone call? Only time (and maybe a paranormal investigator) will tell. Stay tuned for the next chapter!
